Secure2u Self-Activation

1. What is Secure2u self-activation?

Secure2u self-activation is a short and quick process to activate Secure2u on MAE on your mobile (without having to perform Secure2u activation at the ATM). This is only applicable to new Maybank customers with a MAE account.

How it works:

All you need to do is open a MAE account via the MAE app with just your Identification Card (IC). Then, take a selfie for biometric/facial verification and create a Maybank2u ID (M2U ID). Immediately after, you can activate Secure2u directly on your device in one sitting.

2. I am a new Maybank customer with a MAE account. How do I activate Secure2u?

Once you have downloaded the MAE app, follow the steps below:

Step 1: Launch your MAE app and apply for a MAE Wallet

Step 2: Follow the on-screen instructions to start your application

Step 3: Create your Maybank2u ID (M2U ID)

Step 4: Once you’ve created your M2U ID, tap ‘Activate Secure2u’

Step 5: Tap ‘Activate Now’ and follow the on-screen instructions to complete your Secure2u self-activation

3. Why is Secure2u self-activation only applicable to new Maybank customers with a MAE account?

As of May 2025, only new Maybank customers who opened a MAE account will be able to perform Secure2u self-activation. Not to worry, Secure2u self-activation will soon be rolled out in stages to all customers.

4. I am a new Maybank customer and have just opened a MAE Wallet. However, I exited the app before activating Secure2u. Can I still perform Secure2u self-activation?

Unfortunately, if you exit the MAE app before you activate Secure2u, you will first need to register for Secure2u on MAE on your device then perform Secure2u activation at a Maybank ATM. This is to prevent any unauthorised Secure2u activations using your credentials.

Kindly note that once you have activated Secure2u on MAE, there will be a minimum 12-hour activation period before you will be able to use Secure2u to approve transactions. This activation period helps to protect you from fraud.

5. Will this affect me if I’m already using Secure2u on MAE?

No. If you have already activated Secure2u on MAE, you may continue to approve transactions as usual.

6. I previously activated Secure2u on MAE, but uninstalled the MAE app and recently reinstalled it on the same device. Do I need to reactivate Secure2u?

Yes. You will need to activate Secure2u on MAE on your device again. However, since you are still using the MAE app on the same device, you do not need to wait minimum 12 hours before approving transactions. You may continue to use Secure2u on MAE to approve transaction as usual.

7. I recently changed from an old device to a new device. Do I need to reactivate Secure2u on MAE again?

Yes. For existing Maybank customers who switch to a new device, you will first need to register for Secure2u on MAE and then perform Secure2u activation at the ATM.

Once you have activated Secure2u at the ATM, there will be a minimum 12-hour activation period before you will be able to use Secure2u on MAE to approve transactions. This activation period helps to protect you from fraud. For more information on Secure2u ATM activation, click here.

8. What do I do if I encounter issues during Secure2u self-activation?

If you are unable to complete your Secure2u self-activation, you will need to visit the nearest Maybank branch to complete your account application and Secure2u activation.

9. I have activated Secure2u on MAE and the minimum 12-hour activation period is in progress, but I need to perform an urgent transaction. What should I do?

The minimum 12-hour activation period helps to prevent unauthorised Secure2u activation and further safeguard the money in your account.

10. Why am I getting an SMS and push notification requesting that I wait for 18 hours, whereas for some other users it is 12 hours?

For customers who activate Secure2u between 6.00 p.m. and 12 a.m., there will be an 18-hour activation period. For customers who activate Secure2u between 12.01 a.m. and 5.59 p.m., there will be a 12-hour activation period instead.

I am a sole proprietor customer. Am I eligible to perform Secure2u self-activation?

No. You will need to register your Secure2u on MAE on your device and perform Secure2u activation at a Maybank ATM or call MGCC…Kindly note that once you have activated Secure2u on MAE, there will be a minimum 12-hour activation period before you will be able to use Secure2u to approve transactions. This activation period helps to protect you from fraud.

12. I recently opened a new Current/Savings account. Am I eligible to perform Secure2u self-activation?

No. As of May 2025, you will need to register your Secure2u on MAE on your device and perform Secure2u activation at a Maybank ATM. Kindly note that once you have activated Secure2u on MAE, there will be a minimum 12-hour activation period before you will be able to use Secure2u to approve transactions. This activation period helps to protect you from fraud.

Not to worry, Secure2u self-activation will soon be rolled out in stages to all customers.
