Important update

Starting 29 October 2025, we will roll out biometric authentication for Secure2u approvals on the MAE app in stages, giving you greater security in your online banking experience. This marks another step in our stand against fraud so you can continue to bank with us with peace with mind.

With this enhancement, every Secure2u approval will be paired with your device’s biometric authentication (Face ID/Facial Recognition or Fingerprint) to prevent unauthorised transaction approvals. This is on top of our other anti-fraud measures such as one-device access, Malware Shielding and Money Lock, so you stay secure at every step of your banking journey with us.

What this means for you:

  • Stronger defence against malware and fraud attempts
  • Extra protection whenever you approve a transaction
  • Assurance that only you can complete your transactions

What is Secure2u?

Secure2u is the safer and quick way to approve your Maybank2u and MAE transactions, using Secure Verification (one-tap approval). This feature is available on the MAE app.

Once you have activated Secure2u, it will be the default method to approve ALL transactions.

Benefits of Secure2u on the MAE app

  1. Extra level of security for your banking transactions
    • Secure2u pairs your device with your Maybank2u account and all transactions can only be authorised on your registered device.
  2. Reduces your exposure to TAC fraud
    • Secure2u has a unique device-binding feature that only allows it to be registered on a single device.
  3. Safer and quicker transaction approvals
    • Secure2u on MAE is enhanced with a min. 12-hour activation period to prevent unauthorised approvals.
    • No longer wait for SMS because you can easily receive a Secure Verification notification from your MAE app to approve or decline transactions or generate a 6-digit SecureTAC.

How to approve transactions on the MAE app via Secure Verification

Step 1: Perform your transaction and request for Secure Verification to receive a push notification on your registered device

Step 2: Once you’ve received the push notification, tap on it to view your Secure Verification then ‘Approve’ or ‘Reject’ the transaction within 50 seconds

Tip: Make sure you’ve enabled push notification for the MAE app on your device to receive Secure Verification requests

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

  1. I have previously activated Secure2u on the MAE app on my current device. I have since uninstalled MAE and only recently downloaded it again on the same device. Do I need to activate Secure2u again?
Yes, you will need to activate Secure2 again. However, you do not need to wait for the min. 12-hour activation period to start approving transactions as you have previously activated Secure2u on the MAE app on the same device.
  2. I have recently changed or lost my device, can I re-register for Secure2u? Why can’t I register for Secure2u on multiple devices?
Yes, you will need to activate Secure2u again. For security reasons, Secure2u can only be tied to one (1) device per ID number at a time. This is also to prevent any fraudster from compromising your ID number and using other devices to register for Secure2u using your ID.

Upon Secure2u activation on a different device – you will receive a push notification, SMS and email, notifying you that the min. 12-hour activation period is in progress. You will also be alerted with another SMS and push notification 2 hours before the activation period ends. After 12 hours, you will be able to approve transactions via Secure2u as usual.

If you have lost your device, such as your smartphone, you can deregister Secure2u immediately via Maybank2u web. Go to Settings > Security > Secure2u > Toggle to disable Secure2u.

If you suspect that someone else has gained access to your phone, immediately contact our Fraud Hotline at 03-58914744 to terminate your online banking.
  3. I did not initiate a transaction, but I’ve received an alert to authorise a transaction using Secure Verification. What should I do?
If you have encountered any suspicious activity from your account, please contact our Customer Care hotline at 1-300-88-6688 (local) or 603-78443696 (overseas) immediately to lodge a report.
  4. I have activated Secure2u on the MAE app and the activation period is still in progress but I need to perform an urgent transaction. What should I do?
To safeguard your online banking security, you will need to wait min. 12 hours before you can use Secure2u to approve the transactions. However, you can still perform transfers to your own account.
  5. What is biometric authentication?
Biometric authentication is an extra layer of security to verify your identity. You can use your device’s Face ID/Facial Recognition or Fingerprint.
  6. What types of biometric authentication can I use to approve transactions?
The MAE app supports the biometric authentication methods enabled on your device, such as Face ID/Facial Recognition or Fingerprint.
