Safeguard Yourself Against Credit Card Fraud
Dear Valued Customers,
Protect yourself from credit card fraud with these essential tips. Discover best practices to use your credit card safely and prevent theft.
Ways to safeguard yourself from credit card fraud
With increased dependency on plastic money, getting scammed by credit card fraud can be very damaging. Card theft, account takeover, counterfeiting, and mail and telephone order frauds are just some of the ways unscrupulous scammers try to exploit you into giving your personal information. Maybank implements various security measures to prevent credit card fraud, but here are simple steps that you can take as a customer to avoid from becoming a victim:
1. Keep your cards with you
Upon receiving a new credit card, ensure it hasn’t been tampered with and store it safely with all your important documents such as your identity card and driving license.
2. Monitor your online transactions
Turn on your push notifications on the MAE app to track your spending and detect any unusual activities. Immediately call the 24-hour Maybank card emergency number 1300 88 6688 (outside Malaysia 603-79490629) should you notice any unknown/unauthorised transactions on your credit cards. You can also temporarily block your card using the Kill Switch on the MAE app. Always remember that prompt reporting can mitigate and prevent credit card fraud!
3. Review billing statements and avoid paper trails
Regularly review your billing statements for unauthorised charges and report them to your bank immediately, regardless of the charged amount. Immediately report to the bank any unauthorised transactions upon receiving the SMS/email/push notifications of the transactions. Shred billing statements and expired or cancelled credit cards to prevent your information from being stolen.
4. Keep your information private
Be vigilant about sharing your credit card information. Memorise your PIN and passwords, and remember to change them frequently. Use strong passwords with mixed upper and lower-case characters and numbers.
Be cautious of phishing scams posing as legitimate services. Credit card scammers sometimes pose as businesses offering lucrative deals, or send emails that mimic legitimate banks or business logos to trick the unsuspecting user into leaking sensitive information about their credit card.
5. Verify online transactions
Ensure the legitimacy of websites before making purchases. Ensure that the website is secure – check for “https://” in the address bar and research the website’s credibility.
Awareness is key to protecting yourself against credit card fraud. Maybank prioritises fraud prevention and constantly implements the highest measures of security for your credit card and banking accounts. Should you feel that your Maybank credit card is compromised in any way, immediately use Kill Switch on the MAE app to temporarily block your card and call Maybank Group Customer Care at 1300 88 6688 (outside Malaysia 603-79490629).
