Securing a Job in Singapore: The First Step for Malaysians Planning to Work Abroad

Securing Job in SG

Despite the current job market challenges, the desire to seek new experiences and step outside one's comfort zone remains strong. For many, this includes taking the leap to work abroad, offering a significant change of scenery. If you're considering expanding your career internationally, particularly in Singapore, here is a helpful guide to get you started.

Step 1: Job search and application

Update your resume

Before applying for any job, ensure your resume is completely updated and tailored for the specific position. Keep the content concise and focused, aiming to secure an interview where you can elaborate further on your experience and skills.

Apply at job-searching platforms

Now that you’ve got that sorted, it’s time to scout for potential employers. A great way to start is by exploring the same job platforms Singaporeans use, such as:

  • Monster - A global job search website with over 20 years of experience, featuring listings across every Singapore market.
  • MyCareersFuture - A Singaporean government website offering reliable, safety-assured jobs (entry-level and advanced) and career guidance.
  • JobsDB - Job-seekers can search through aggregated job offers from many sites on this platform.
  • Indeed Singapore - A highly effective local iteration of the worldwide meta-aggregator, distinguished by its excellent user interface.
  • LinkedIn - The world's most famous professional network is strong in Singapore, with daily job postings tailored to your interests.

Get ready for interviews

Waiting for an interview outcome from interested employers can be quite nerve-wracking. To maximise your chances, keep these tips in mind during the interview:

  • Answer questions confidently, highlighting your skills and expertise.
  • Don't hesitate to ask thoughtful questions to gain a deeper understanding of the role and the company.
  • Be prepared to openly discuss salary, benefits, and other compensation opportunities with your interviewer.

Once you've done your part, you can relax and wait for your interviewer to get back to you with the good news.

Step 2: Learn the difference between EP and S Pass

You've successfully secured a job offer after utilising the first step of our process! Your mandatory next step is to apply for the correct work visa: either the Employment Pass (E Pass) or the specialised/skilled pass (S Pass).
