We have received reports on phone call scams which appeared to be from our Customer Care hotline, but they were actually scammers who identify themselves as representatives from Maybank or Bank Negara Malaysia. This tactic is known as ‘telephone spoofing', a way to mask their real identity and trick you into answering the call.

In the phone call:

  • The scammer informed the potential victims that their IDs have been compromised for opening an account with suspicious transactions.
  • Potential victims were required to reveal their personal and banking details to facilitate an investigation.
  • A recorded message informing the potential victims that they have an outstanding amount due with an option to connect to a customer service officer or to call the bank's customer service department at a specified telephone number. DO NOT contact the number provided by the caller. Instead, please contact the bank's customer service number as listed on the bank's website to seek clarification or confirmation on the authenticity of the call.
  • Potential victims were instructed to transfer a sum of amount to settle an overdue payment.
