Eastspring Investments Islamic Small-cap Fund (the “Fund") is an equity (small-cap Shariah) fund under growth fund type.

The Fund aims to provide capital apppreciation by investing in small market capitalisation Shariah-compliant securities with growth potential.

The Fund seeks to achieve its investment objective by investing in Shariah-compliant equities and equity-related securities, such as rights and Shariah-compliant warrants of small-cap companies listed in Malaysia with market capitalisation up to RM5 billion. When the market capitalisation of the companies within the portfolio increase beyond RM5 billion after the point of acquisition, the Fund will not increase its holdings in Shariah-compliant equities and equity–related securities of such companies. However, the Fund may remain to be invested in those Shariah-compliant equities and equity-related securities which have grown over time in the Fund’s portfolio.

To identify such companies, the Manager will adopt a systematic fundamental research and valuation driven investment approach where quality of management, strength of business model, industry dynamics, driver of profitability and sustainability of earnings are assessed to identify stocks that market has undervalued and exploit such opportunities.

The Fund is actively managed. However, the frequency of its trading activities will depend on market opportunities and the assessment of the Manager.

The Fund is launched on Maybank’s Platform on 1 August 2017. The Manager is Eastspring Investments Berhad and the Trustee is Deutsche Trustees Malaysia Berhad.

The Fund is suitable for investors who:

  • Seek capital appreciation;
  • Have high risk tolerance; and
  • Adport a long-term investment horizon.

Asset Allocation as follows:

  • Minimum 70% of the Fund’s NAV in Shariah-compliant equities and equityrelated securities; and
  • Minimum 1% of the Fund’s NAV in Islamic deposits or Islamic liquid assets.
  • The Fund’s income distribution policy is subject to the availability of income, distribution of income, if any, will be incidental, after deduction of taxation and expenses.
  • The benchmark is 80% FTSE Bursa Malaysia Small Cap Shariah Index + 20% FTSE Bursa Malaysia EMAS Shariah Index.
  • Sales Charge per Unit is up to 5.26% of the NAV per unit, exclusive of Goods and Services Tax (“GST”).
  • No redemption fee.
  • No transfer fee.
  • Switching fee varies dependent on fund that the investors switch into.
  • Base currency is Malaysian Ringgit.
  • Minimum balance of investment is 1000 units.
  • Annual management fee is 1.50% per annum of the NAV of the Fund.
  • Trustee fee is 0.065% per annum of the NAV of the Fund subject to a minimum of RM15,000.00 per annum (excluding foreign custodian fees and charges)
  • Minimum initial investment is RM1,000.00 and minimum additional investment is RM100.00.
  • Redemption monies to be paid within ten (10) calendar days from the date of redemption request is received by the Manager.
  • Cooling off period, unit holders may exercise cooling-off rights within six (6) business days commencing from the date the application of investment received by the Manager.
