What is Malware?


Malware is a collective name for all sorts of malicious and harmful software. Unrequested and undetected, it succeeds in installing itself on your computer. Malware influences normal device processes and steals information. Scammers use malware to steal money from your account and to commit identity theft.

How do malicious apps work?

  • They are sent through chats, links, attachments, etc.
  • The app will ask for your permission to be the default SMS app.
  • If you tap ‘Allow,’ it can steal your SMS, TAC or OTP and compromise your banking details.

What do I do if I tapped ‘Allow’ and my banking details are compromised?

  • Uninstall the suspected malicious app.
  • Change your banking password.
  • Report any suspicious transaction to us at 03-58914744.

What will happen if you install the fake app

  • The fake app will display a fake payment page for you to proceed with the payment.
  • This fake payment page in the malicious app is designed to steal your credentials.

Safety Tips

  • ALWAYS double-check to ensure it is genuine before you enter your M2U login details.
  • As a safety measure, you should ONLY continue when you see your chosen security image and log in phrase.
  • DO NOT enter your login details on unknown websites or apps, as your details could be stolen by scammers.

How to spot malware in your smartphone?


  • Unexplainable draining of battery
  • Pop-up dialogues to install other applications/unwanted Ads
  • Your antivirus not running (some malware disables antivirus)
  • Your monthly data/phone usage increased (check your bill for unknown transactions)
  • Overall performance of the smartphone reduced
  • Apps crash unexpectedly
  • SMS doesn’t get delivered/Calls disrupted

How to protect yourself from malware?


  • Use anti-virus/anti-malware software. Install and maintain an updated, quality antivirus program.
  • Be choosy. Think before you download any files or programs. Ask yourself if you can trust the source and whether the site is genuine.
  • Update your devices as recommended by trusted sources. Things are always changing, so it's important to keep your operating system (e.g. Windows), Internet browser, applications (e.g. Adobe Acrobat, Java) and firewalls up to date.
  • Stay safe online. Always use websites and programs that you can trust. Be sure of what you're agreeing to before clicking.
  • Be vigilant. NEVER open spam email messages containing attachments or click links on suspicious websites.
  • Keep yourself updated. Regularly check security alerts and advisories to obtain the necessary information to protect your device. This helps to prevent you from becoming a victim of common security threats such as banking fraud and identity theft.
