Michael Oh-Lau
Chief Executive Officer
Michael Oh-Lau was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Maybank Investment Bank Berhad on 28 October 2024. He is also Chief Executive Officer of Maybank Investment Banking Group, a position he has held since December 2022.
As Chief Executive Officer of Maybank Investment Bank Berhad, he is responsible for growing the Malaysian business, reinforcing its position as the leading investment bank, while driving regional leadership.
Michael has extensive wholesale banking experience over his 27-year tenure with the Group, covering investment and corporate banking services across Maybank's regional franchise and strategic financial centres located globally. His deep knowledge of corporate customers, ranging from product and service solutioning, client relationship management and risk management, has enabled him to develop strong networks and relationships with Maybank's corporate clientele.
His recent leadership roles in Maybank include Managing Director and Regional Head, Debt Markets at Maybank Investment Bank and Managing Director, Corporate Banking, Group Global Banking. He has executed landmark transactions which cemented Maybank's position as the leading sukuk arranger, and more recently, he was instrumental in designing and implementing the repayment assistance programmes for corporate clients at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Michael holds a Bachelor of Science in General Management from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, US. In recognition of his exemplary leadership in the debt capital market space, he was a recipient of the Asian Banker Promising Young Banker Awards in 2011.
Tengku Ariff Azhar bin Tengku Mohamed
Deputy Chief Executive Officer
Tengku Ariff Azhar Tengku Mohamed was appointed Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Maybank Investment Bank Berhad on 28 October 2024. He was earlier appointed Officer-in-Charge on 3 January 2024 while serving as Chief Operating Officer since 1 December 2021.
In his role as Deputy Chief Executive Officer, he will support the Chief Executive Officer of Maybank Investment Bank Berhad in managing client relationships effectively, ensuring the offering of comprehensive solutions, and overseeing the Investment Management business of the bank.
A seasoned investment banker with more than 20 years' working experience in the capital markets including stints with the Securities Commission Malaysia, Malaysian Rating Corporation Berhad and Khazanah Nasional Berhad, he has an extensive track record in deal origination, structuring and execution, specialising in an array of debt capital markets products. Previously, he was Head of Debt Capital Markets where he led a number of award winning-transactions for Maybank Investment Bank Berhad and in his role as Chief Operating Officer, he oversaw significant system enhancements for the retail brokerage business culminating in the a launch of the new Maybank Trade MY mobile application.
Tengku Ariff holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Syracuse University, New York.
Ezrina Mahadzir
Chief Financial Officer
Ezrina Mahadzir was appointed as Chief Financial Officer of Maybank Investment Bank on 1 April 2021. She is also Head, Operations for Maybank IB, overseeing Finance, Operations, Procurement and Admin.
Her career spanning over 20 years includes roles in London with Deloitte and Royal Bank of Scotland. She joined Maybank in 2017 as Head, Special Projects, CEO’s Office, Maybank Kim Eng Group before moving to Finance.
Ezrina holds a degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Warwick. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants and a Chartered Banker, Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers.
Cheryl Cheng Siew Ying
Chief Risk Officer
Cheryl Cheng Siew Ying was appointed as Chief Risk Officer of Maybank Investment Bank on 1 January 2021.
She started her career as a statistical analyst before moving on to risk management, and has accumulated over 14 years’ experience in asset management and investment banking. She set up and led the risk management department of Maybank Asset Management Group prior to joining Maybank Investment Bank in 2019.
Cheryl holds a Master of Applied Statistics from University Malaya and a Bachelor of Science in Financial Mathematics from University Malaysia Terengganu and Bank Risk Management certification by the Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers (AICB).
Zatil Hanani Mohamed Rifai
Human Capital Director
Zatil Hanani Mohamed Rifai was appointed as Human Capital Director of Maybank Investment Bank on 1 June 2023 and is responsible for providing strategic advisory and consultancy in the areas of talent engagement, retention and development. She is a certified career coach since 2022, with a wealth of experience in cultivating positive work environments and aligning human capital strategies with business objectives.
Zatil started her career as an auditor at Ernst & Young before joining Maybank Group Audit’s investment banking unit, where she performed various audits across overseas units including Maybank Investment Banking Group entities in Singapore, Vietnam and the United Kingdom. After a two-year stint with Group Audit, she shifted her career focus to Human Capital at Maybank Investment Banking Group.
Zatil holds a first class honours degree in Accounting from Universiti Teknologi Mara.
Adrian Tan Kai Thern
Head, Information Technology
Adrian Tan Kai Thern joined Maybank Investment Bank as Head, Information Technology on 25 April 2022. He is responsible for leading the IT function to strategise and recommend initiatives to identify business opportunities and risks across all P&L levers. He will also support Maybank IBG in regional transformation and new growth opportunities.
Adrian brings over 15 years’ experience in software development, project and IT management. He has been involved in various digitalisation and transformation projects involving foreign equity trading, credit card, loan and e-wallet.
Adrian holds a Bachelor in Engineering (Computer/ Telecommunication) from Campbell University, USA and a Master in Computer Science majoring in Artificial Intelligence from Universiti Malaya. He is a Certified Project Management Professional (PMP).
