Dr Hasnita Hashim
Independent Non-Executive Director (Chairman)
Dr. Hasnita was appointed as Chairman Maybank Investment Bank on 2 November 2020.
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Surrey University, United Kingdom and a PhD in Nuclear Physics from Oxford University, United Kingdom. She was also an Associate of the Institute of Actuaries, Staple Inn, London.
She brings 30 years of global financial management experience in the field of asset management, structured finance and asset securitisation. She has held senior management roles at local and multinational companies, including Chief Executive Officer of Commerce MGI Sdn Bhd (“CMGI”), Malaysia and Director and Chief Executive Officer of Guidance Investments Sdn Bhd (an investment arm of Guidance Financial Group, a global investment company) with asset under management of around USD1 billion.
Dr Hasnita is known to be a pioneer and innovator in Islamic finance and has extensive relationships with large investors and key business players particularly from the Gulf countries. She was instrumental in the establishment of a Riyal 1 billion mortgage company in Saudi Arabia as well as setting up a USD3 billion Islamic mortgage company in the United States in partnership with Freddie Mac. In 1998, she founded IslamiQ, the world’s first online Islamic finance portal.

Dato’ Abdul Hamid Sheikh Mohamed
Independent Non-Executive Director
Dato’ Abdul Hamid was appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Maybank Investment Bank on 26 October 2017. He serves as Chairman of the Audit Committee and member of the Credit and Underwriting Review Committee of the Board.
Dato’ Abdul Hamid is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and a graduate of Emile Woolf School of Accountancy in London. With over 30 years of experience, he first started his career in the accounting firm, Messrs. Lim Ali & Co/Arthur Young (now known as Messrs. Ernst & Young) before joining Bumiputra Merchant Bankers Berhad (now known as Alliance Investment Bank Berhad) and Amanah Capital Malaysia Berhad. Dato’ Abdul Hamid subsequently joined the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (“KLSE”) (now known as Bursa Malaysia), where he held various key roles including Chief Financial Officer. During his 5-year tenure there, he had led KLSE’s acquisitions of the Kuala Lumpur Options and Financial Futures Exchange (“KLOFFE”) and the Commodity and Monetary Exchange of Malaysia (“COMMEX”), and their merger to form the Malaysia Derivatives Exchange (“MDEX”). Dato’ Abdul Hamid had also led the acquisition of the Malaysian Exchange of Securities Dealing and Automated Quotation (“MESDAQ”), as well as the KLSE’s demutualisation exercise.

Dato’ Sri Sharifah Sofianny Syed Hussain
Independent, Non-Executive Director
Dato’ Sri Sharifah Sofianny was appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Maybank Investment Bank on 4 December 2017. She serves as member of the Audit Committee, the Risk Management Committee and the Credit and Underwriting Review Committee of the Board.
Dato’ Sri Sharifah holds a degree in Accounting from the University of Missouri, Columbia, USA and is an alumna of the prestigious London Business School. She has 18 years of experience holding various leadership roles in stockbroking and wholesale banking businesses. She started her career with Shell Malaysia and left after 11 distinguished years to begin a career in stockbroking at K&N Kenanga Berhad and JF Apex Securities. In 2011, Dato’ Sri Sharifah joined Maybank Investment Bank Berhad as Deputy Managing Director, Equities, and rose to become Managing Director, Head of Institutional Equities. She subsequently holding the post of Managing Director of Client Coverage (Public) at Maybank Global Banking in 2014, before leaving the Maybank Group in 2015. During her tenure in Maybank, she spearheaded numerous restructuring initiatives leading to many major accounts being successfully elevated to top-tier positions, and which saw Maybank receiving various prestigious awards such as the AsiaMoney Awards for the Most Improved Brokerage for two consecutive years, Best Overall Sales Services, and Best Execution in Malaysia.
Dato’ Sri Sharifah Sofianny’s directorships within the Maybank Group include Maybank International Holdings Sdn Bhd, Maybank Capital Inc and Maybank Securites Inc.
Currently, she is a director on the board of Sime Darby Plantation Berhad. She is also a member of the Majlis Pekerjaan Negara (National Employment Council) and Chairman of the Industry Advisory Panel for Bachelor of Finance at University Tenaga Nasional (“UNITEN”).
Che Zakiah Che Din
Independent, Non-Executive Director
Che Zakiah Che Din was appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Maybank Investment Bank on 26 October 2018. She serves as member of the Audit Committee, Credit Review Committee and Compliance Committee of the Board of Maybank.
She holds a Bachelor Degree in Economics from University of Malaya and has more than 30 years of banking experience working exclusively with Bank Negara Malaysia (“BNM”).
Ms. Che Zakiah commenced her career with BNM in the Economics Department in 1982. She has held various other positions within BNM throughout her tenure mainly in the areas of banking supervision, regulations and enforcement, before retiring as the Director of Financial Conglomerates Supervision Department on 1st May 2017. She. In her role as Director of Financial Conglomerates Supervision, she oversaw the implementation of prudential supervision of eight domestic banking groups on a consolidated basis. The consolidated supervision covered banks and non-bank entities of the banking groups, including domestic and overseas operations of the groups, and focused on the enforcement of the prudential regulations and measures to mitigate Anti-Money Laundering and combating the financing of terrorism.

Goh Ching Yin
Independent Non-Executive Director
Goh Ching Yin was appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Maybank Investment Bank on 25 July 2016. He serves as a member of the Risk Management Committee of the Board and Chairman of the Credit & Underwriting Review Committee of the Board.
He holds an MBA from the Cranfield University. He held various leadership and management positions in investment banking, regional business development, strategic consultancy, corporate recovery and insolvency, and auditing.
Mr. Goh started his professional career with Peat Marwick Mitchell and then moved on to consultancy at Price Waterhouse Associates. He later embarked in the investment banking industry when he was with RHB Sakura Merchant Bankers Berhad as a General Manager for Corporate Finance. Subsequently, he assumed the roles of the Managing Director of Corporate Finance with the BNP Paribas Group in Malaysia, and the Chief Executive Officer of Southern Investment Bank of the Southern Bank Group. He then held positions as Executive Director in the Chairman’s Office, Strategy and Development, and Market Oversight Divisions during his tenure with the Securities Commission of Malaysia. He was also a member of the National Cyber Security Advisory Committee, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation Malaysia and member of the Intellectual Capital Development Committee, Innovation Agency Malaysia.
His current directorships in companies within the Maybank Group include as director of Maybank International Holdings Sdn Bhd, Maybank Asset Management Group Berhad, Maybank Asset Management Sdn Bhd, and Chairman of both Maybank Asset Management Singapore Pte. Ltd. and Maybank Securities Pte. Ltd.
His directorships in other companies include Shangri-La Hotels (M) Bhd, Khazanah Nasional Berhad, Allianz Malaysia Berhad, and Allianz Life Insurance Malaysia Berhad. He is also a member of disciplinary panel of Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers.
Dato’ Philip Tan
Independent Non-Executive Director
Dato’ Philip Tan Puay Koon was appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Maybank Investment Bank Berhad on 1 December 2024. He serves as a member of the Risk Management Committee and the Credit and Underwriting Review Committee of the Board.
Dato’ Tan is a Professional Board Director and Treasury Training Consultant with nearly 40 years of experience in banking and finance, and more than 15 years of experience in board governance and oversight. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (CNAA) (First Class) Degree in Business Studies (Accounting and Finance) from North-East London Polytechnic, United Kingdom, and is an Associate Fellow of the Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers (AICB). He began his career at Citibank Berhad where he held key leadership roles, including Financial Markets Head and Country Treasurer. He later served as Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer of Citibank N.A.’s Asia Pacific Emerging Market Sales & Trading Business Group, based in Singapore, before retiring in 2006.
Dato’ Tan has extensive board experience across Malaysia’s financial ecosystem, having served on the boards of Citibank Berhad, MIDF Amanah Investment Bank Berhad, Cagamas Berhad, Danajamin Nasional Berhad, Payments Network Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Malaysian Electronic Payment System Sdn Bhd and MEPS Currency Management Sdn Bhd. He was also a Non-Public Interest Director in Private Pension Administrator Malaysia, an Independent Non-Executive Director of SP Setia Berhad, and a Director of China-Malaysia Qinzhou Industrial Park Development Co. Ltd.
He contributes his expertise as an Adjunct Senior Lecturer of the ICLIF Executive Education Centre, Asia School of Business and is a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Directors Malaysia (ICDM) where he serves as a mentor for the ICDM Aspiring Directors Programme and Group Mentoring Program as well as Malaysia’s 30% Club. He also chairs Bank Negara Malaysia’s Corporate Debt Restructuring Committee and is an External Member of its Financial Market Infrastructure Committee.

Dato’ John Chong
Non-Independent Executive Director
Dato’ John Chong was appointed as a Non-Independent Executive Director of Maybank Investment Bank Berhad on 8 October 2024, and also serves as a member of the Credit and Underwriting Review Committee of the Board. He has been the Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Global Banking at Maybank since March 2024.
With a tenure at Maybank Group since 1993, he has over 30 years of regional financial services experience encompassing corporate and investment banking, wealth management, consumer and commercial banking. He was previously the CEO of Maybank Investment Bank and Maybank Investment Banking Group (when it was known as Maybank Kim Eng) from January 2014 to September 2018, and Group CEO of Community Financial Services from October 2018 to February 2024.
Dato’ John’s directorships in companies within the Maybank Group include Maybank International Holdings Sdn Bhd and Maybank Asset Management Group Berhad. He also sits on the board of An Binh Commercial Joint Stock Bank in Vietnam.
Dato’ John is a Fellow Chartered Banker of the Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers (AICB), and completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. He holds a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia.
