Maybank has expanded its MoneyGram Services from 58 branches to all its more than 400 Maybank branches nationwide offering greater conveniences to those who wish to remit money to over 170 countries and MoneyGram's 125,000 global money transfer locations.
Maybank, in a strategic alliance with MoneyGram International in June 2006, began offering MoneyGram transfer service at selected Maybank branches.
"We are excited and pleased to announce the additional branches roll out with Maybank," said Nick Cunnew, Senior Regional Director, Asia Pacific and South Asia. "Malaysia is one of our top markets today and Maybank has been a strategic agent in building an extensive service network throughout the country. Reliability and speedy transaction processing are the top qualities of this important service for Malaysians here and abroad. Funds can be transferred person-to-person around the world in as little as 10 minutes (subject to agent hours of operation and local regulations)."
"The expansion of MoneyGram service to all branches is to cater to the needs of customers as well as enhancement of our IT delivery system as transactions are done electronically providing a quick, reliable and safe way of remitting money. With the expansion of MoneyGram Transfer Service to all Maybank branches, we now offer even greater choices of remittances to customers," said Ashraf Ali Kadir, Executive Vice President and Head of Cards and Payments Maybank.
Ashraf also said that this additional service expands the range of remittance services customers now enjoy from self service online remittances via Maybank2u.com and the basic remittances available at the counter.
"The service offers immense benefit to businessmen, parents, students or overseas workers or businesses who require a fast and reliable money transfer to anyone overseas, particularly those who require cash in an emergency and those who do not have a bank account. The service gives peace of mind as it eliminates the risk associated with carrying cash across borders or using unauthorized money transfer services," added Ashraf.
To use the service, customers must bring identification such as a passport, complete a short, simple form and they pay for the amount of money they want to send and the MoneyGram service fee. They are then given a MoneyGram reference number. The recipient may pick up the money at the designated MoneyGram location using the number and upon presenting proper identification.
