Maybank and Sony Malaysia have teamed up to offer SonyCard, a new exclusive co-brand credit card that promises more value and a new entertainment experience. The SonyCard is Sony's first co-brand credit card in South-east Asia. SonyCard offers shoppers a convenient way to earn reward points and enjoy exclusive Sony entertainment.

The SonyCard with the "SEE, HEAR, PLAY and SHOP" experience, gives cardholders a chance to watch blockbuster movie premieres, hear hottest music the moment it's released, play new games others have only heard of and shop for electronic innovations that inspire envy. On top of that, cardholders also earn double reward points each time they charge their purchases using SonyCard at participating Sony outlets.

"SonyCard synergises the brand strengths of Maybank, Sony and VISA. It is more than just a credit card. It's a lifestyle card to differentiate the customer. It offers immense value to customers and offers double advantage over normal credit cards. It comes with an exciting host of exclusive privileges as well as benefits when purchasing Sony products and services. It also gives access to a wide range of facilities and services offered by Maybank and VISA's domestic and global merchants," said Mr Spencer Lee, Senior Executive Vice President and Head of Consumer Banking, Maybank at the joint launch held in Kuala Lumpur.

Also present were Mr Naoi Sudo, Managing Director of Sony Malaysia, Encik Ashraf Ali Kadir, Head of Cards Business Maybank, and Mr Jeffrey Perera, Country Manager, Malaysia for Visa International.

Mr. Naoi Sudo said the SonyCard concept emphasises a Total Sony Experience. "With our new SonyCard, customers get to enjoy exclusive entertainment rewards from the best in movies and music to the coolest games. The SonyCard reinforces Sony's strong commitment to continuously introduce more benefits to meet its customers' changing needs. This card also offers payment flexibility with superior value for card members," he added.

SonyCard also carries the latest innovation on payment solution, the Wave technology. Cardmembers can perform contactless payment for all purchases below RM150 by just "waving" the card at the reader terminal. This offers a speedier, simpler and safer way to pay.

"Sony's more than 53,000 existing loyalty cardmembers will have immediate access to the SonyCard and enjoy special loyalty rewards and incentives when they shop at any of the 52 Sony stores nationwide. Sony's immediate benefit is the potential to generate new customers from Maybank's large customer base to patronise Sony outlets and merchants. We are targetting to sign on about 40,000 SonyCard members by the end of the year," added Lee.

SonyCard is offering 21 exclusive privileges including Sony entertainment rewards to its cardholders. Among the privileges are: 1 year annual fee waiver, 0 % installment plans of up to 36 months at more than 2,500 outlets including Sony Style, Sony Centre and Sony designated stores, extended warranty including lightning and fire protection up to 25 months, exclusive invitations to Sony events, up to 20% discount on after-sales services, up to 50% discount on Sony's Digital workshops, hot deals and free delivery of Sony products.

SonyCard members can also access Maybank's extensive delivery channels of more than 400 branches and more than 1600 ATMs, internet and mobile banking for payment convenience, autodebit services, attractive balance transfer plan year, round EzyPay schemes, Maybankard TreatsPoints and Travel Treats for their entertainment, shopping and travel. Cardmembers can also enjoy other travel convenience with Maybankard Touch n' Go Zing auto reload card, view their card balances or pay bills to over 500 corporations anywhere, anytime via M2u Mobile and Maybank2u.com.

Mr Lee also said that SonyCard will promote greater cashless transactions at Sony outlets and merchants. "Cashless payments are recorded in the customer's account giving them better management of their spending and finances. For merchants, cashless transactions improve security and increase cost-efficiency and eliminate many of the issues involved with handling cash. With Sony's brand value, its marketing savvy promotions and our joint campaigns, we promise even greater rewards for our cardholders," he said.

In conjunction with the new launch, Sony Malaysia offers an opportunity to the first 500 successful applicants to two complimentary passes to watch the much awaited Premier of Spider-Man 3 movie on April 30, 2007. Also the top spender of SonyCard for the month of May will a win limited edition autographed Spider-Man poster.
