With more than 18 years experience as Trustee to Collective Investment Schemes and private debt securities, MTB has as at 31 January 2010 under its trusteeship a total of fifty six (56) unit trust funds and three (3) REITS valued at more than RM11.06 Billion and RM3.498 Billion in Net Asset Value respectively. We also have under our trusteeship a total of sixty six (66) bond issues making us one of the largest provider of trustee services for private debt securities.

Trustee for Unit Trust Funds

A unit trust fund is a collective investment scheme, which pools the savings of investors with similar investment objectives in a special "trust" fund managed by professional fund managers. The pooled monies in the unit trust fund will then be invested in a diversified portfolio of securities and other assets in accordance with the unit trust fund's investment objectives and as permitted under the Securities Commission's (SC) Guidelines on Unit Trust Funds.

The Trustees play a crucial role in protecting the unitholders by ensuring that the fund is operating in accordance to what is stipulated in the Trust Deed and by holding all assets of the said fund for the unitholders.

Trustee for Private Debts Securities and Sukuk

Other than Equity, Bonds, a debt instrument, is a popular form of capital that a company can raise. With the many debt instruments available in the market ranging from "plain-vanilla" to Islamic Sukuk instruments, it is a requirement by the Securities Comission that a Trustee be appointed to safeguard the interests of the bond holders by ensuring the provisions, covenants and requirements as stipulated in the Trust Deed is complied with.

Trustee for Real Estate Investment Trust Schemes

Real estate investment trusts, known as REITs, are entities that invest in different kinds of real estate or real estate related assets, including shopping centers, office buildings, hotels, and mortgages secured by real estate. REITs are sought after by investors as they provide accessibility to large scale income producing properties.

As with all investments that involve the large pooled funds of the public and general investors, a Trustee is needed to ensure that these funds are safeguarded and are used in the manner of which it was first intended by the unitholders. Mayban Trustees Berhad under its Trusteeship several notable REITs such as Quill Capita Trust, AMFirst REIT and Starhill REIT.
